Chat on WhatsAppPhotos straight from a modern phone or camera are often 4 to 12 MB. Many forms, chat apps and email systems are happier with something closer to 1 MB. Compressing an image to 1 MB is the gentlest preset Dokurapi offers, and for most photos the change is hard to spot on a normal screen.
What 1 MB means on this page
Dokurapi treats 1 MB as 1000 KB, and 1 KB as 1000 bytes. So the target is 1,000,000 bytes, and the tool aims for no more than 940,000 bytes to keep a 6% safety margin. If a site you upload to measures in 1024-byte units, that margin still keeps you under its limit.
Where the savings come from
Two things shrink the file:
- Resolution. If the longest side is over 2400 px, the image is scaled down to 2400 px. A 4000 x 3000 phone photo becomes 2400 x 1800, which is still sharper than most laptop screens can show at once.
- JPEG quality. The image is encoded at the starting quality, 84% by default. Only if the file is still above the safe target does the tool lower quality, 10 points at a time, up to 7 times, never below 18%. If the file is still too big at the 18% floor, the tool then shrinks the pixel dimensions step by step (never below 640 px on the longest side) and shows the final dimensions in the result.
With a 1 MB budget, step one alone is usually enough, so the output quality in the result panel is commonly the starting value itself.
Good reasons to use 1 MB
- Uploading a portfolio piece or work sample to a job or freelance profile.
- Attaching photos to an email without hitting attachment limits.
- Submitting achievement evidence. As one example, the SNBP 2026 registration guide in Indonesia allows achievement evidence up to 2 MB as PDF, PNG or JPG, so a 1 MB image leaves comfortable room.
- Storing a lighter copy of photos you want to share widely.
Keep in mind that the output is JPEG. A PNG screenshot with large flat areas or transparency will be converted; transparent parts turn white. For screenshots of text, check sharpness after conversion.
When you have more than one photo
This tool processes one image at a time so you can review each result. If a form wants several photos as a single document, combine them with photo to PDF after compressing. If you only need a smaller image for a strict slot, the general image compressor lets you pick 100, 200 or 500 KB instead.
Nothing is uploaded, EXIF details such as GPS location are removed by re-encoding, and there is no account or daily limit. The receiving site's current instruction is the final authority on what it accepts.
How to use
Open an image
Select one photo from your device; large camera files are fine.
